A day of appreciation, empowerment, a day to support women. Earlier this month, our Pacific Homecare team and a few of our Fia Ola members attended the annual International Women’s Day event held at the Te Puke Otara Community Centre.
Surrounded by a strong collective of talented, confident Pasifika women – it was a time to embrace and encourage women to continue to be their diligent selves, to learn about why we must advocate for International Women’s Day, and to teach our men about how to support the cause.
Since it was also a day of appreciation, there were pamper stations, where EVERYONE was able to craft, get their nails and eyebrows done, receive a comforting massage, learn the art of Tai Chi and eat delicious food! Even our awesome male supporters were getting into the fun as well. A moment to cherish and enjoy.
It gave us time to reflect on all the amazing women we hold dear in our lives. We think of our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, aunties, nieces, friends, wives, partners, everyone. We think of Mama Pi and Mama Matarena who answered a need for homecare services for our people and began Pacific Homecare’s illustrious journey.
It is truly a blessing to be surrounded by influential Pasifika women.
Learn about International Women’s Day (IWD):
When is IWD? | 8 March.
When did IWD begin? | 19 March 1911 in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark (more than one million men and women supported it).
Why did IWD start? | It is a call to action to accelerate gender equality & to celebrate the “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women”. It teaches us to value the women in our lives and to stand with groups whose rights are not being met.
