From her home country of Fiji to building a life here in Aotearoa New Zealand, Lachmi Devi has been part of the Pacific Homecare whānau for almost 14 years. Outside of work, Lachmi enjoys spending time cooking, gardening, and connecting with friends.

Lachmi began her career with Pacific Homecare as a Support Worker in 2011. Here, she supports clients with their daily living needs – while also promoting their independence, dignity, and well-being. Her passion for caring for others has been at the heart of her journey with Pacific Homecare.

“I have been working with Pacific Homecare as a Support Worker for nearly 14 years. During this time, I have gained extensive experience supporting clients with their daily living needs and promoting their independence, dignity, and well-being. My role involves providing person-centred care and daily activities, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment, and building respectful and trusting relationships with clients and their families. I have developed strong communication, reliability, patience, and teamwork skills through my experience.”

Lachmi was nominated as our Employee of the Month by one of her clients, who shared,

“I have known Lachmi since 2025. She is my Support Worker and I strongly feel that a good Support Worker deserves to be recognized.”

Her nomination highlighted the many qualities that make Lachmi such a valued Support Worker, including:

  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Professionalism and positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and initiative.
  • Dependability and the ability to create meaningful client relationships.

Her client ended her nomination, by saying, “overall, her dedication, compassion and consistent support makes a big difference in my daily well being. Always appreciated her service. I highly recommend Lachmi Devi for Employee of the Month award.”

This heartfelt feedback reflects exactly why Lachmi is so deserving of this recognition and the positive impact she continues to make in the lives of those she supports every day. As for Lachmi, the most rewarding part of her role is the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of the people she supports every day.

“After nearly 14 years with Pacific Homecare, I value the relationships I have developed and the opportunity to provide caring, reliable, and respectful support every day. I also enjoy working as part of a team and continuing to learn and develop my skills.”

Over the years, Lachmi has found inspiration in many people throughout Pacific Homecare, from coordinators and colleagues to the clients she supports.

“The people who inspire me most at work are the coordinators, my colleagues, and the clients. Coordinators inspire me through my communication with them. I always accept to relieve whenever I am available.”

“My colleagues also inspire me because of their kindness, teamwork, dedication to providing quality care, and the friendship we share.”

“My clients inspire me through their strengths, resilience and determination, especially when they face challenges in their lives. They trust me always while I’m providing services to them and feel safe and satisfied.”

It comes as no surprise that the exceptional care Lachmi provides reflects how she views Pacific Homecare as an organisation. When asked to describe Pacific Homecare, she chose six simple but powerful words:

Caring. Supportive. Respectful. Understanding. Professional. Friendly.

These qualities are evident in the way Lachmi consistently goes above and beyond for the people she supports.

Our CEO, Hamish Crooks, describes Lachmi as the kind of Support Worker every organisation hopes to have.

“Lachmi is a wonderful worker, a number one worker. She is really consistent. Works day in and day out, doing the hard yards, and her customers keep telling us exactly what we know. That Lachmi is a lovely worker.”

Lachmi’s dedication, compassion, and commitment to providing outstanding care have made a lasting impact on both clients and colleagues alike. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of the Pacific Homecare whānau.

Congratulations, Lachmi, on being our September Employee of the Month!
