It was at Fia Ola where Victor first met his current wife Iliganoa (Noa) Loeta-Ahpoe.

Ex Administration Officer Victor Killian joined Fia Ola as a foundation member in 2004. After a career in the Finance & Payroll department, Victor made the life-altering decision to retire at fifty-five and start enjoying life.

“I said to myself, I’m gonna enjoy my life and not spend my life working”

Victor

Victor was fortunate enough to have worked in several locations in his tenure as Administration Officer at the Ministry of Transport and later the NZ Police Department when the two amalgamated in 1990. This experience gave him a taste of the travel-bug.

Following his retirement at fifty-five years young, Victor added to his experiences and spent the next four years traveling and soaking in the beauty the land of the long white clouds had to offer.

Having completed his tiki tour, Victor decided to return to American Samoa to be with and take care of his ninety-year-old mother. He got to enjoy quality time with her before she passed away four years later. Victor returned to New Zealand in the same year and settled in Manurewa, Auckland.

In 2004, Victor was introduced to Fia Ola after an invitation from Field Coordinator (Taua Malaetele). At this point, Victor was already a customer receiving care by Pacific Homecare support workers.

“My favourite part of Fia Ola are the exercises,”

“I’ve always loved coming here to Fia Ola because of Taua’s leadership, I appreciate all the care provided where I can speak my language,”

“I used to call him (Taua) Jesus because he’s such a servant of God”

Noa adds with a giggle

Both Victor & Noa have been married previously and have children and grandchildren of their own, but a bond was formed between the duo through Fia Ola, a bond that strengthened and flourished when Victor took care of Noa following a recent back operation.

The couple took their time getting to know each other and spent a bit of time on trips out of Auckland, getting to know each other’s friends and families.

Victor has encountered many hardships in his life, but we can all agree that there is a light at the end of every tunnel. Along with Victors 6 children, he has been blessed with “too many grandchildren to count” and 11 great great grandchildren who live in the USA, not to mention his beautiful Wife, Iliganoa, whom he has been married to for just under a year.
