For many reasons, Support Worker, Ofa Lile has been recognised for her extraordinary efforts in her role. At times when our Service Coordinators were flat out with no Support Workers available, she agreed to attend and help regardless of whether service was late or far.
From the island of Tonga, Ofa began permanently relieving as a Support Worker at Pacific Homecare in 2007. Saying,
“When I started this job, it instantly felt like a family to me. And that’s why I’m here because I always get help. My grandfather used to say to me to nurse and care for others, and that’s what I did. It’s really nice and that’s why anything they throw at me I do because the patient is important to the service.”
As a reliever, no two days are the same, so Ofa is always learning on the job. “When you get to the level of being a reliever, every day you go into different situations. So, I learn a lot when I go to our customers. Different situations and always giving a hand to the people that need help.”
When asked about her favourite part about working at Pacific Homecare, Ofa said that it is the love that is felt by the entire workforce. Expressing that love is a vital part of working in this role. Mentioning, “Love is important. I learn it from my teacher when I go to upskill and she said “Ofa if you don’t have love in your heart, you can’t do anything” and I carry on this in my heart when I go. Some of the SW say the clients are hard I say when you have love in your heart everything is easy. You have to give love first. Love, care and professionalism, it’s really important.”
One person she experiences this from is Senior Service Coordinator, Louise Uluakiola. “Louise is my hero; she always encourages and helps me.” If she has any questions, she feels comfortable contacting Louise for help. Saying, “She’s been there for a long time and been out on the field she’s like a mother that can carry you under her wings.”
When describing Pacific Homecare in 3 words, she returns to our values of love, care and professionalism. Saying that all her customers tell her how she suits these values, being light with her smile, always looking smart and treating each customer with kindness.
A kind heart beyond measure, Ofa has worked extremely hard in her role and for that we recognise and congratulate her as our August Employee of the Month.
Congratulations, Ofa!
