Last month we acknowledged Aravei Rae, who has been awarded our Employee of the Month for October 2019.
Aravei started with us in August 2018 as a Support Worker, and since day one has shown her professionalism and love in all, she does for our organisation and our customers.
Born in the beautiful Cook Islands on the motu of Aitutaki and mother of 6, Aravei loves to spend time with her family and especially loves cooking. She also enjoys volleyball, basketball and listening to R&B and Cook Island music.
A typical day for her in her job consists of ensuring our customers’ houses are beautiful and clean; they are well fed and ensuring her time with them is a fun and enjoyable experience.
One thing she loves about her job is just spending time with and getting to know our customers. She says, listening to stories and learning about their experiences, share a lot about how her grandparents lived in the days past. A lot of the stories shared with her are uplifting moments, which she is thankful.
When asked about who inspires her, she says one of her customers does, Mama Vero. A lady at the age of 84, Aravei is blown away by how she continues to live her life. A lady who is still sharp and independent. Aravei says “I hope I’m like her at that age, I just love working with her”.
She received Employee of the month because of her excellent work ethic and receipt of positive feedback from our customers. She is always willing and able to put in the extra effort to ensure customers are happy. One staff member had this to say about how she cares for our customers. “Looking after our customers is like looking after her own family”. We are so thankful to have support workers like Aravei.
