From the Far North, Hokianga, Maria Morunga-Tamata has been a dedicated Support Worker with Pacific Homecare for around 15 years.

“I started with Pacific Homecare in June 2011 after completing Level 2 at the course behind the old Pacific Homecare building in East Tamaki.”

For Maria, the most rewarding part of her role is being able to start each day knowing she is making a difference in someone’s life.

“It’s being able to wake up and go out to provide service to the clients.”

She finds deep inspiration in the resilience and determination of those she supports.

“The clients inspire because they try to do things every day. There’s this client who walks every morning, unless it’s raining. When I met her, all she did was shower — now she walks, does her laundry, and even vacuums on the odd days. She suffered a stroke a year ago.”

When asked to describe Pacific Homecare, Maria sums it up simply and powerfully: humble, hardworking, and caring.

Maria’s long service and genuine care make her a valued member of the Pacific Homecare whānau, and a well-deserved Employee of the Month.
