After working as a mechanic for most of his career, Siasau Faleulu, who is originally from Samoa, decided to make the switch to a career in the homecare sector in 2015. Less than a year on, he’s been made Employee of the Month.
Here we catch up for a quick Q & A with Siasau, who is known for his reliability and commitment to his job.
Tell us a little bit about your background:
I came to New Zealand from Samoa in 1996 and worked as a mechanic until 2015 when I joined Pacific Homecare.
What sorts of things do you do in your job?
I am a Support Worker, so I support and assist clients with both household and personal care, such as preparing meals and doing light exercises.
Tell us about your clients / a normal day in your job?
Clients are always excited to see me. I look forward to seeing them every day as I feel I am making a difference in their lives.
What training have you completed at Pacific Homecare?
I’m currently in the process of completing my National Certificate in Health Disability and Aged Support Level 2.
What do you like most about working at Pacific Homecare?
I love helping people, especially the elderly. Plus we have a very happy and supportive environment in the office.

I never gave it much thought, as long as I got a good education and got a good job to help support my family
