Support Worker Tausala has been recognised for her warm and uplifting personality. Colleagues describe her as approachable, kind, and a true joy to be around. With her dedication and heart for others, we’re proud to celebrate her as September’s Employee of the Month.
Tausala is proudly Samoan, from the village of Moata’a. She now lives in Ōtara with her beautiful family of seven — her husband, two daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter, and their family dog.
Her journey to Pacific Homecare began in the 1970s, when she migrated to New Zealand seeking better opportunities. She spent 10 years working at the Housing Corporation before stepping away to care for her daughters and later her mother, who suffered a stroke. It was through caring for her mum that Tausala first experienced the care and support of Pacific Homecare, which inspired her to join the team herself in 2008.
Seventeen years later, Tausala continues to serve with love, care, and professionalism. She takes pride in her work, often going above and beyond for her clients. As she puts it:
“I support my clients by following their care plans to the best of my ability, but sometimes I go further when I feel it’s necessary. In those situations, I always remember what the big Boss said: ‘COMMON SENSE.’”
This simple yet powerful mindset has made her stand out. Staff admire her straightforward approach, saying, “She does what she needs to do and never overcomplicates things.”
When asked what she loves most about her role, Tausala replied:
“At the end of the day, I’m a boss myself. I share knowledge, build relationships, respect my clients, and love meeting people of all sorts. Talking and laughing is the best medicine — especially for those who live alone.”
Her ability to connect with others, brighten up any room, and treat clients with the utmost respect are just some of the reasons she has been chosen as Employee of the Month. She also draws inspiration from her colleagues, sharing with a smile: “The front desk, Daniel. He greets me with a smile or a laugh.”
