We are constantly blown away by the love, care and professionalism Maria pours into every one of her customers.
From the beautiful Hokianga and part of Iwi Ngapuhi, Maria married a wonderful Cook Island man and now lives happily as a mother of 5 adult children and grandmother to 6 grandchildren. After joining the Pacific Homecare team in 2011, Maria has had the pleasure of meeting many customers and quickly developed a relationship of trust and friendship with them all. Saying they are her biggest inspiration at work.
“Maybe not every day is the same but being with them and assisting them to achieve their goals little by little is amazing…your customer feels wonderful and so do I.”
Caring for her customers has not only strengthened their relationship professionally but has made them lifelong friends. They are also one of her favourite parts about working at Pacific Homecare. Meeting their families, becoming friends and buddying up with fellow Support Workers are what she looks forward to in her day to day work. Oh, and payday *haha*.
Being a Support Worker does have its days of sadness, especially in times when customers she cares for passes away. However, she said she is thankful that she can talk to a Coordinator or Manager for support. At PHCARE, our staff and customers are our priority. Caring for one another not only creates a positive work environment but builds a strong support system.
When describing Pacific Homecare in 3 words, Maria replied with ‘supportive, hardworking and humbling’. When we hear these words, we think of Maria! Not only does she go above and beyond in her role at PHC, but she is always kind and respectful to customers. Working to her absolute best each day. A bright, passionate role model. And that is why she is the Employee of the Month for March.
