Support Worker for over a decade, Fetu Pese comes from the beautiful island of Samoa. After immigrating to Aotearoa, she first lived in Wellington before settling in Auckland in 1987.

Before joining Pacific Homecare, Fetu worked in a printing store in Manukau for five years. When the company closed, she shifted her career into community-focused work with Pasifika Trust. In 2014–2015, when Pasifika Trust relocated to the North Shore, she was referred to Pacific Homecare – a move that would shape the rest of her career.

Since then, Fetu has supported clients across South Auckland, including one special client she has cared for from infancy through to becoming a happy, healthy child.

Outside of work, Fetu and her husband are proud parents to six children and are now happily grandparents of five. Their family home in Manurewa, purchased in 1989, has been the heart of many cherished memories. When she’s not working, Fetu loves spending time caring for her grandchildren.

Her favourite part of working at Pacific Homecare is connecting with people.

“I like talking and enjoy laughing with others. You’ve got to smile! With new people, I always like to introduce myself.”

Fetu says her biggest inspiration comes from her permanent clients and the heart behind working in home-based care.

“When you go out to work [as a Support Worker], you be good to your clients and do it from your heart. Before I became a Support Worker at Pacific Homecare, I thought home-based care was only at rest homes and hospitals. Once I started and saw what it really was, I thought, I can do this, and I kept going. It’s from the heart.”

And this passion she had for caring has kept her committed to her role for many years.

“If I didn’t like this job, I wouldn’t stay this long…I look after my clients as if they were my own children. Many, many times I go, I enjoy the work.” Mentioning moments where she can make her clients laugh makes her realise how much she appreciates the work she does. Thanking the Lord for giving her a job like this and the strength to work in a job that she loves without complaints. Fetu finishes with a message that truly reflects her dedication:

“I love the job… easy or hard, I do it from my heart. Caring is what you do for yourself.”

Once again, congratulations, Fetu! We at Pacific Homecare are so proud of you.
