Ending December on a high note, we celebrate Support Worker Abdul Ali as our December Employee of the Month — the final EoM of 2025! Abdul was nominated by the niece of Pacific Homecare customer, Kula, who praised his outstanding patience, communication, and care.
She shared that her uncle was not initially keen on receiving support, often declining the help of Support Workers. However, she said, “Through Abdul’s patience, care, willingness, and passion for his job, he has created a safe space for Kula to feel comfortable. Today, since the start of his services with us, Abdul has been able to get Papa to shower, come out of his room to have a meal at the table, and he is smiling, too. Which is a very big deal!”
This month, we acknowledge and thank Abdul for the kindness and care he shows to each customer he supports.
Born Fijian Indian with roots tracing back to South India, Abdul has called New Zealand home for the past 23 years. A proud father of two beautiful children, he first discovered the world of caregiving through his wife, who was already in the field. Watching the impact of her work supporting customers inspired him to follow in her footsteps.
Abdul joined Pacific Homecare in October 2018 as a Support Worker, and since then, our team has become much more than a workplace.
“PHC is like a family to me,” he shares. “The staff and my fellow workers are always supportive, and the company provides all the training we need so we can do our jobs confidently and with care.”
For Abdul, the most treasured part of his role is visiting his “papas” each day.
“Being in their [customers] service gives peace to my soul, and it is a great blessing. Money can be earned by many means, but getting someone’s blessing is a great achievement.”

Listening to their life stories, learning from different cultures, and being welcomed into so many homes has been one of the greatest gifts of his journey. He also draws strength from his faith, which teaches love, respect, and compassion for all — values he lives out in his work every day.
“Look after your parents when they grow old,” Abdul says. “By the blessings of the Almighty, my parents are well, and God has given me the opportunity to care for so many other papas. It’s really heart-touching when they bless you.”
When asked what makes PHC special to him, Abdul captures it in three simple words:
- FAMILY – “All the staff and Support Workers feel like one family.”
- BLESSING – “It’s a blessing to be part of this team and serve our community.”
- CARING – “PHC looks after its workers in every way they can.”
We are incredibly grateful for Abdul’s dedication, compassion, and the aroha he brings to our customers every single day. Congratulations, Abdul Ali — our December Employee of the Month. You truly deserve it.
