It has been said, “Save one life; you’re a hero. Save 100 lives; you’re a nurse.” Some of our greatest heroes in healthcare are nurses, and we recognise the dedication they bring when caring for others.
This May 12, we celebrate International Nurses Day. The 2025 theme is ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care.’ At #PHCARE, we spoke to Service Coordinators Faletolu and Palu about their backgrounds in nursing and how they got into their roles.
Tell us about yourself and your background in nursing:

Faletolu: My name is Faletolu Togia Niupulusu. I was born and raised in Samoa. I have been a Registered Nurse at an Acute Patient Care Clinic (APCC) at Motootua Hospital in Apia, Samoa, for about four years, gaining experience in patient care, administration, and emergency protocol. Helping people is one of the things that I enjoy most about being a nurse. I often find deep fulfilment in making a positive impact on patients.

Palu: My name is Veitacini, and everyone calls me Palu. I am from Fiji and originally from the small village of Namuka I Lau in the Lau Province. I am married and have an 11-year-old daughter. My husband is also a Fijian from Mavana, Vanuabalavu. Being a nurse was a dream come true for me. I have been a nurse for 17 years, and before coming to Pacific Homecare, I was a Nursing Sister at the University of the South Pacific, holding that position for 9 years.
What are you enjoying in your current role as a Field Coordinator?

Faletolu: As a Field Coordinator, I enjoy building strong relationships with Support Workers and clients. Ensuring their needs are met and that quality care is consistently delivered. I also find satisfaction in problem solving and supporting the team in fast paced environment.
Lastly, my favourite part of my role at Pacific Homecare is the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our clients. Knowing that our work helps individuals live independently and comfortably is incredibly fulfilling.

Palu: I am still learning. I have been accompanying some colleagues during their client reviews this week, and I’m enjoying it. So far, I love getting to know my colleagues and understanding the role that I play in this position. I also love integrating with clients and understanding their needs.
Once again, thank you to our healthcare heroes for your continued dedication to caring for patients. We’re grateful to you all!
