Ensuring our customers receive compassionate care from dedicated Support Workers who embody our values of love, care, and professionalism is essential at Pacific Homecare. Loraina Tukana, a 25-year-old Support Worker, demonstrates these qualities effortlessly, earning admiration from both her colleagues and the clients she serves in her brief time with PHC. Loraina embraces her role wholeheartedly, driven by a natural connection with her clients.

Born and raised in Yasawa, Fiji, Loraina credits her upbringing and life experiences for shaping who she is today. “I was born and raised in Fiji and I’m originally from Yasawa on the island of Fiji. I have been shaped by my experiences, values and goals, which have helped me become the person I am today”, she reflects. Loraina’s early passion for sports like netball, volleyball, rugby, and swimming sowed in her a strong work ethic and determination, qualities that fueled her goal of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, which she received in 2020. Looking ahead, Loraina is eager for more growth and learning. “I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and also looking forward to more learning and upgrading skills”.

Drawing from her nursing background, Loraina easily merges her skills into her role as a Support Worker. “My role is a permanent reliever in which I relieve Support Workers who are on leave, sick or have other business to attend to. Pacific Homecare consists of different sectors, working together to achieve quality care and services for the people. They provide services for the disabled, the elderly and also for Long-term Chronic Health. Helping these clients also teaches me a lot and I’m also eager to learn as it will help me when I have relatives with similar conditions”.

Loraina has won the hearts of many of our customers, which she finds an easy task to take on as making them happy has become her favourite part about working at Pacific Homecare, saying, “Helping clients and seeing smiles on their faces when all tasks are done for that particular client.”

Acknowledging her journey, Loraina credits Support Worker Akosita Cakau as an inspiration. “Akosita Cakau is the woman who I look up to as I have learnt so many things from her when I started as a Support Worker. As this was my first job here in NZ, I’m grateful that she was my mentor and helped me how to do the work professionally.”

We thank Loraina once again for her dedication to her role at Pacific Homecare and encourage her to continue being a light in our customers and colleagues’ lives. Loraina beautifully shows Pacific Homecare as a place of love, joy, and unity from the feedback we receive about her.

Congratulations, Loraina!
