A popular vote amongst many of the team, Support Worker, Nancy Uhatahi has been recognised as Pacific Homecare’s November Employee of the Month.

Nancy’s humble drive to go above and beyond for our customers is what struck many of the team in nominating her. Completing relief work whenever and wherever, all with a happy heart, shows how she constantly expresses the PHC values.

A Tongan mother of 7, “four boys and 3 beautiful girls”, Nancy began her time as a Support Worker almost two years ago.

“My role as a Support Worker, I think it’s been one and a half, almost two years. I’m very proud of what I’m doing. First of all, I started here as my mum’s dying wish. From there, with that experience, I’ve been grateful that I have these opportunities because Pacific Homecare looked after my mum.”

When caring for her customers, Nancy says it feels like she’s looking after her mum and dad. Something she feels very thankful to be doing. “When I got the text saying I am the Employee of the Month, it’s something that I want to dedicate to my customers.”

Although some days can be challenging, especially when customers she cares for pass away, she expresses the closeness this role brings among herself, her customers and their families.

“I was sad as one of my customers passed away. I joined the family before they took the customer back to Rarotonga. But as a Support Worker, it’s something that has given me more. I love my job…I know it’s not easy, but it’s something that I’m grateful for.”

When asked about her favourite part at PHC, Nancy mentioned her co-workers, a.k.a her girls, the customers she cares for, their families, and the Coordinators. Thinking about her time at PHC, she salutes her workmates which makes every day more fun, especially the long-service staff that she learns a lot from. “I’m happy and I’m proud. With that, I’ve come this far because of my customers, my girls [co-workers] and the Coordinators, and I’m so proud and happy to have them.” The Coordinators in the office always have her back, giving her hours when she asks and being the support she needs at work. From there, her bond with her co-workers, customers and their families has grown.

“Working as a team with customers and their families. That is something I really admire”.

Congratulations again, Nancy!
