Uriaau Epi found her calling while caring for both her ill sister and father. A superstar at Pacific Homecare, Cook Islander Uriaau received some great feedback from our NASC physio commending her work while assisting a client back on her feet in less than a week. She’s our January Employee of the Month!

Born and raised in the Cook Islands, I came to NZ in 1985. I worked as an accounts administrator and have a Diploma in Hospitality and Management and a Certificate in Law. I have three beautiful children who live in NZ as well. I came to Pacific Homecare after caring for my sister whom had cancer and my father. Once they passed. I knew I wanted to be a carer.

What sorts of things do you do in your job?

I mostly do personal care for my clients visiting them in their homes.

Tell us about your clients / a normal day in your job?

No day is the same! My clients have challenging behaviour, and sometimes they want a shower, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they are friendly, sometimes at they are not. It depends on the weather I guess (lol0! That is why I love my job.

What training have you completed at Pacific Homecare?

I have completed First Aid, my Level 2 National Certificate in Community Support and dementia training.

What do you like most about working at Pacific Homecare?

I love working with my clients. Every day is different.

Who inspires you?

The man above.

At the end of your working day, what do you like to do?

I like to go home, and after doing my housework I like to relax with a glass of wine over dinner.

What’s your favourite childhood memory?

Back in the islands I loved playing sports. Anything to do with sport and I was there! I have memories of moving from family home to home, spending time with uncles and aunties and hanging out with my cousins.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A teacher.

Administration or accounts.
