PHC 2018 Graduation & Christmas Celebrations

Mon 10 Dec 2018

Our end of year graduation and Christmas Ball was a great way to sign off a challenging but successful year. The theme this year was Christmas Ball.

What can I say! The Christmas committee really came through with their decorating ideas that made the venue look spectacular.

It was also a fabulous sight to see our people all glammed up and ready to let their hair down.

The night began with speeches, followed by cake cutting and a walk down memory lane with Mama Pi & Haliasi Konelio, then graduates recognition and an item provided by the Tongan community (Malo), followed by dessert. After which, the DJ took over to que (even though none was needed) the opening of the dance floor.

This year’s Christmas Party was especially elaborate because we celebrated Pacific Homecare’s 30th birthday, a milestone for us, “and we will be around for another 30 years!” says Hamish Crooks.

Established in 1988 Pacific Homecare has gone from a self-funded service run by two women, the late Mama Matarena George and Mama Pi Elisaia (our current patron and trustee), to answer the need for Homecare services for the Cook Island elderly people in the local Otara community; to a fully funded service that is prominent in the Pasifika community boasting a staff count of just under 200 and home care customer count of just over 600.

It is fair to say that the last corporate year has been one of the most challenging. We have seen some of the most impactful changes in our work and services. Pay Equity changes which has been great for our workforce and our sector. In terms of systems to support rosters, customer services and workforce we transitioned to a new CRM and a mobile data App with a mobile phone provided for each worker with more than 3 customers.

We expanded the Whanau Ora team and completed our 3-yearly audit with a good result. We also said kia manuia to some of our older, more experienced staff members who left us to pursue their career aspirations; and welcomed our new recruits who have brought with them a wide range of experience and a healthy enthusiasm to learn.

Some of the special mentions of the night go to:

Meitaki Mata e kia manuia PHC community and have a blessed and safe holiday!
